In a Serie A drama, Venezia and Empoli battled it out in a 1-1 draw, with neither side willing to back down.
Venezia chocked Empoli when J. Pohjanpalo netted in the fifth minute.
The game was the fourth in a row without a win for Empoli.
For Venezia, this means 18th place in the table, while Empoli are 11th in the league.
Empoli equalised to make it 1-1, when Sebastiano Esposito found the net, with an assist by Lorenzo Colombo, in the 32nd minute. The teams were unable to score in the second half and the game ended 1-1.
Venezia’s next Serie A games are against Inter (home) on 12 January, Parma (away) on 19 January and Hellas Verona (home) on 27 January. Empoli play Lecce (home) on 11 January, Inter (away) on 19 January and Bologna (home) on 25 January.
