Betting Guide Extra: Goalscorer Markets

These markets, available on football matches, allow for players to bet on players scoring goals within games, and there are actually a wide variety of different markets players can bet on here.

First Goalscorer

Here, you choose who you think will score the first goal of the game. Own goals, regardless of which team scores them, do not count towards the settlement of this market. Its worth bearing in mind that most sportsbooks work on the rules whereby if the player you’ve selected was not on the pitch when the first goal of the game was scored, your bet will be voided.

Furthermore, you are able to place an ‘Each Way’ bet on this market. If this is available with the bookie you’re placing a bet on, its normally something that you can do on the betslip before you confirm the first goalscorer bet.

An ‘Each Way’ bet is where you place a second bet on top of the original bet, on a slightly different market, and is especially common in outright betting markets. In the case of the first goalscorer market, if you place a bet each way, the second bet will be on the ‘anytime goalscorer’ market, but the odds will be slightly different.

In the market heading, you can normally find the terms, with it saying something along the lines of ‘Each Way 1/3’, which means that the profit that you stand to make of the anytime goalscorer market will be a third of that of the first goalscorer market.

If the odds of the first goalscorer market is 10.0 (Dec) for example, the profit that you would stand to make from a $10 bet is $90. So for the second bet, your odds will automatically become 4.0 (Dec), because the profit you would get from a winning bet is $30, or 4.0 (Dec).

So you end up having 2 bets:

  • If your player does score the first goal of the game, you win both bets, meaning a total profit of $120

1st GS$1010.0$100$90
Any GS$104.0$40$30
  • If your player does not score the first goal but does score in the game, you win the second bet only, but overall, you will still make a profit of $20

1st GS$1010.0$0-$10
Any GS$104.0$40$30
  • Naturally, if your player does not score at all, you lose both bets, and you will overall lose $20.

Last Goalscorer

Here, you choose who you think will score the last goal of the game. Again, own goals don’t count. The rules behind this market are usually set so that if the player that you’ve selected does not play a single minute of the game, your bet will be voided.

You can also bet each way on this market, and the explanation for this can be found above.

Anytime Goalscorer

Here, you choose a specific player to score at least one goal in the game. Similar to last goalscorer market, as long as the player you selected plays at all, your bet will stand.

Multi-Goalscorer

In this market type, you can select if you think a particular player will score at least 2 goals or 3 goals in a game. The higher the goals you’re gunning for, the higher the odds. Again, your bet will stand if the player comes on at all.

Team Goalscorer

Here, you can bet on first and last goalscorer markets, but only goals limited to your team count. So if the opposition team score first, your bet can still win if the player you selected scores the first goal for his or her team. And of course, the bet will only stand based on above criteria.

Scorecast

In this bet type, you are placing a bet on 2 outcomes – firstly, you need to predict the first goalscorer, and you also need to predict the correct score of the game. Should the player that you selected not be on the field when the first valid goal was scored, your bet will automatically change to a single bet on the correct score market at the odds of that correct score at kick off.

Anytime Scorecast

Similar to a scorecast, but this time, instead of predicting the first goalscorer, you are predicting the anytime goalscorer in the game as well as the correct score of the game. Similar to the scorecast market, should your player not feature in the game at all, the bet switches to a single on the correct score market.

Wincast

In this scorecast market, you are betting on the first goalscorer along with predicting who you think will win the match in the 1×2 market, and much like the other markets we’ve looked into, should the player that you’ve selected not be on the pitch when the first goal is scored, your bet becomes a single bet on the 1×2 market.

Timecast

Finally, in this market, players will be betting on the first goalscorer along with the time period that the first goal will go in, usually split up into 10 minute or 15 minute spells. As always in these markets, if the player that you’ve selected to score the first goal was not on the pitch at the time of the first goal, your timecast bet becomes a single on the ‘Time of first goal’ market.
