Valencia and Osasuna played out a goalless draw at the Mestalla, with the hosts now sitting just one place above the relegation zone. Ruben Baraja’s men had endured their worst start to a season in 25 years, taking just four points from their opening five La Liga fixtures. They faced a tough Osasuna side, who had already collected ten points and had lost just one of their previous four visits to Mestalla.
The match was opened by the effort of Valencia, the hosts, who had the first real opportunity to score as Pepelu volleyed the ball. Unfortunately, the shot was not accurate. A few risky moments followed for both teams.
However, they did not rush anywhere in vain. Valencia tried to appeal for a penalty as Dani Gomez was brought down.
The referee did not respond to the hosts’ requests. On the opposite side, it is possible that Giorgi Mamardashvili was lucky not to have been penalized as he accidentally tripped Raul in his attempt to hit the ball out.
As the first half drew to a close, Valencia seemed to be the more likely side to break the deadlock. However, both teams managed only one shot on target each, leaving the match scoreless at halftime.
The game was very slow to begin with. As the game carried on, though, it quickened up. A great save was made by Valencia’s goalkeeper, Herrera, who stuck out his foot and blocked the ball preventing Andre Almeida from scoring.
Osasuna were also very close to scoring, but they couldn’t beat Valencia’s goalkeeper, Mamardashvili. Valencia had a really good record against Osasuna but still couldn’t put one in the net. In the end, Budimir tried to win the game, but he missed.
By drawing, Valencia only won one out of seven games in the league. And for Osasuna, they got a good point and a clean sheet, which is important as they lost a lot of goals in their last two away games.
