The 3-1 goal came in extra time, when Marcus Linday found the net for SC Heerenveen.
SC Heerenveen were quickest out of the blocks, and went 1-0 up when Miloš Luković netted in the fifth minute, with an assist from Ilias Sebaoui.
In the 57th minute, Ilias Sebaoui increased the lead for SC Heerenveen.
Zico Buurmeester reduced the score for AZ in the 76th minute.
SC Heerenveen are now in eighth place, while AZ are in sixth place.
