RB Leipzig took the lead just before half time as Johan Bakayoko netted, with an assist by Ezechiel Banzuzi.
FSV Mainz 05 play FC Augsburg on 20 September, Borussia Dortmund on 27 September and Hamburger SV (away) on 5 October. RB Leipzig’s next opponents are FC Köln on 20 September, VfL Wolfsburg on 27 September and Borussia Dortmund (away) on 4 October.
The result means FSV Mainz 05 are now in 15th place in the table and that RB Leipzig are sixth in the league.
