In the 37th minute, Hugo Ekitiké scored, with an assist by Alexis Mac Allister , to give Liverpool a 1-0 lead in what had been a goalless match.

Straight after the break, Cody Gakpo scored and increased the team’s lead.

With 64 minutes on the clock, AFC Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo found the net following a David Brooks assist to pull one back for AFC Bournemouth.

Antoine Semenyo again equalised for AFC Bournemouth with an assist by Hamed Junior Traoré, in the 76th minute.

The 3-2 goal to take the lead came, when Federico Chiesa netted for Liverpool.

The deciding goal came in extra time, when Mohamed Salah scored for Liverpool, with an assist by Wataru Endo.

The next Premier League games for Liverpool are Newcastle United (away) on 25 August, Liverpool (home) on 31 August and Burnley (away) on 14 September. AFC Bournemouth play Wolverhampton Wanderers (home) on 23 August, Tottenham Hotspur (away) on 30 August and Brighton & Hove Albion (home) on 13 September.

Following their impressive 4-2 victory home at Anfield against AFC Bournemouth, Liverpool now find themselves leading the Premier League standings after one game played, holding a slender three-point advantage over Manchester City. AFC Bournemouth currently sits in 20th place in the league.
