Hürzeler Hails Brighton’s Resilience After Narrow Win Over Bournemouth

Brighton battled their way to a hard-fought 2-1 win over Bournemouth, keeping their European dreams alive while dealing a blow to their opponent’s chances. Brighton’s manager Fabian Hürzeler admitted they had a bit of luck on their side but was thrilled to see his team secure their third straight Premier League victory.

Joao Pedro put Brighton ahead from the penalty spot after being brought down by Kepa Arrizabalaga. Bournemouth, however, hit back in the second half with a stunning goal from Justin Kluivert. 

Just when the game looked up for grabs, Danny Welbeck came off the bench to seal the win with his 30th Premier League goal for Brighton—tying Pascal Groß as the club’s all-time top scorer in the competition. Hürzeler praised Welbeck’s leadership, highlighting his influence on the team’s younger players.

Coming on the heels of a brutal 7-0 loss to Nottingham Forest, this was a resounding response from Brighton. Hürzeler, who attributed his squad’s response to learning from past mistakes and returning to fundamentals. Bournemouth, meanwhile, were left frustrated despite a hardworking display.

Manager Andoni Iraola felt his side created the better chances, particularly in the second half, but also that they were lacking in Brighton’s finishing prowess. Though they controlled for long stretches, one defensive lapse on Welbeck’s goal proved costly.

With back-to-back losses, Bournemouth will need to bounce back immediately to stay in the race for European qualification.
