FC Groningen and FC Twente had to settle for a 1-1 draw in a heart-stopping Eredivisie battle. In the match both of the sides exhibited their attacking intentions, and neither were able to gain all three points.
Thom van Bergen netted FC Groningen ahead, after completing a well-taken chance in the 32nd minute; FC Twente was level right before half-time, as Sem Steijn coolly slotted a penalty into the net to hit a level playing field of 1-1.
As for the second half, several half-chances fell on both sides again; they just couldn’t go and score the mediocre ones that mattered. FC Twente held up in 5th place and FC Groningen in 9th on the table.
Following this match, FC Groningen will next take on Fortuna Sittard at home on 7 March, before they head to NAC Breda on 29 March and Feyenoord on 2 April. FC Twente has matches against Almere City on 9 March, appearing at home, and then Feyenoord and Heracles Almelo on March 16 and March 30, respectively.
