FC Barcelona have now won four straight at home games.
Following their 2-1 home triumph at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys against Girona, FC Barcelona now sit atop the La Liga after nine games, leading Real Madrid by a solitary point. Girona occupies the 19th position in the league standings.
FC Barcelona started the match well and took the lead early when Pedri netted after 13 minutes, with an assist by Lamine Yamal, making it 1-0.
Girona equalised to make it 1-1, when Axel Witsel found the net, with an assist by Arnau Martínez, in the 20th minute.
The deciding goal came in stoppage time, when Ronald Araujo scored for FC Barcelona, with an assist by Frenkie de Jong.
FC Barcelona play Real Madrid on 26 October, Elche on 2 November and Celta de Vigo (away) on 9 November. Girona’s next opponents are Real Oviedo on 26 October, Getafe on 2 November and Deportivo Alavés (home) on 9 November.
