Chelsea End Losing Streak in Style with 4-0 Win Over Southampton

Last Updated on February 26, 2025

On a night when Chelsea fans protested against their owners outside Stamford Bridge, the team gave them something to cheer about—ending a three-game losing streak with a dominant 4-0 win over Southampton.

Chelsea took full advantage of Southampton’s poor defending, cruising to a comfortable victory that lifts them back into the top four. Meanwhile, Southampton remain stuck at the bottom of the table, just two points away from Derby County’s infamous record-low points tally, with 11 games left to play.

Christopher Nkunku opened the scoring in the 24th minute, nodding in from close range after Southampton failed to clear a corner. Pedro Neto doubled Chelsea’s lead 12 minutes later, smashing a near-post finish past Aaron Ramsdale. Just before halftime, Levi Colwill made it 3-0 with a header from a Neto free kick. Marc Cucurella sealed the win in the 78th minute, finishing off a slick counterattack.

This win marks Chelsea’s third consecutive Premier League home victory—their longest streak this season. It’s also only their second clean sheet in 14 league games at Stamford Bridge. Interestingly, this was the first time Chelsea had a three-goal lead at halftime in a league match this season—the last time they did so was in a 5-0 win over West Ham back in May.

Sure, it was against the worst team in the league, but after three straight losses, Chelsea will take any positive momentum they can get. As for Southampton, nothing changes—they remain rooted to the bottom with just nine points. Elsewhere, Crystal Palace’s win gives them a boost in the fight to climb up the table.
