This means the team has extended their lead in the La Liga and the gap to second placed Real Madrid is now seven points. However, Real Madrid have one game in hand. The first goal was scored right at the death with four minutes left to play, when Dani Olmo netted, with an assist by Fermín López, to make it 1–0 for FC Barcelona.
The 2-0 goal came in extra time, when Robert Lewandowski found the net for FC Barcelona, with an assist by Fermín López.
The match saw two teams in great form up against each other. FC Barcelona claimed a ninth consecutive win. Before the game Espanyol had won their last five.
FC Barcelona now enjoy a three-game run without conceding a goal.
