Argentina clinched a 3-2 win in a thrilling World Cup playoff against Cape Verde Islands, prevailing in extra time.

There was no real shape to the match until Argentina took the lead just before the half-hour mark through Lionel Messi who netted played in by Lisandro Martínez making it 1-0.

With 59 minutes on the clock Cape Verde Islands’ Deroy Duarte found the net following a Ryan Mendes assist to equalise.

The 2-1 goal to take the lead came when Lisandro Martínez found the net for Argentina with an assist by Alexis Mac Allister.

But Cape Verde Islands still had time to score an equaliser. Sidny Lopes Cabral scored in the 103rd minute off a pass from Yannick Semedo.
