League leaders FC Barcelona continue to impress. With a 2-0 win away against Villarreal, FC Barcelona recorded yet another victory. This means the team has extended their lead in the La Liga and the gap to second placed Real Madrid is now four points. Villarreal are in fourth place in the league.
FC Barcelona started the match well and took the lead when Raphinha scored a penalty in the 12th minute, making it 1-0.
Villarreal’s Renato Veiga was sent off in the 39th minute.
With 63 minutes on the clock, FC Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal found the net following a Frenkie de Jong assist to double their lead.
FC Barcelona claimed a eighth consecutive win in the La Liga, while Villarreal’s streak of six wins ended.
After taking points in seven straight games, Villarreal suffered defeat.
Villarreal’s next La Liga games are against Elche (away) on 3 January, Villarreal (home) on 10 January and Real Betis (away) on 18 January. FC Barcelona play Espanyol (away) on 3 January, Real Sociedad (away) on 18 January and Real Oviedo (home) on 25 January.
