Straight after the break, Albert Sambi Lokonga scored and equalised for Hamburger SV.
Just two minutes later later, Christoph Baumgartner gave RB Leipzig the lead, with an assist by Rômulo.
The result means that RB Leipzig have taken points in six straight games.
The result leaves RB Leipzig in second place, while Hamburger SV are in 10th place. RB Leipzig are 5 points behind FC Bayern München.
