Solid Showing by Manchester United Earns Point Away at Liverpool

A spirited Manchester United side battled to a well-deserved point away from home against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday in the Premier League. The closely fought encounter ended with the scoreline level at 2-2, highlighting Manchester United’s resilience.
The first half was goalless, but straight after half-time, Lisandro Martínez made his mark as he netted, with an assist by Bruno Fernandes, to give Manchester United the lead.
With 59 minutes on the clock, Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo found the net following a Alexis Mac Allister assist to equalise.
Liverpool also made it 2-1 in the 70th minute, when Mohamed Salah made his mark with a penalty.
Amad Diallo equalised for Manchester United with an assist by Alejandro Garnacho, in the 80th minute.
The result means that Liverpool have taken points in 15 straight games.
The result means the fourth game in a row without a win for Manchester United.
It leaves Manchester United in 13th place and that Liverpool are at the top of the table.
“I want to see my team play so much better, but I think the most important thing to address today is the mentality,” Ruben Amorim said.
“That is the key for everything. Today we were a different team, not because of the system, not because of the technical aspect of the game [or] the tactical aspect of the game,” he added.
Liverpool play Nottingham Forest on 14 January, Brentford on 18 January and Ipswich Town (home) on 25 January. Manchester United’s next opponents are Southampton on 16 January, Brighton & Hove Albion on 19 January and Fulham (away) on 26 January.
