Germany Aims to End Hungary Curse; Scotland & Croatia Seek First Victories

The tournament host, Germany, started their campaign with a massive 5-1 win over Scotland. On Wednesday, they are trying to break the curse against Hungary on their home ground. Surprisingly, in their last three meetings, two of them ended with a tie, and the last one, Hungary survived the game against them in a close 1-0 win. The Magyarok opened their Euro 2024 with a 3-1 loss against Switzerland. The German squad has young talent Musiala and Wirtz. In their last three meetings, however, surprisingly they haven’t beaten Hungary.

Hungary is captained by the young star Szoboszlai, but for a win, they need to avert the first-half start mistakes. Germany will try to go one step closer to qualify for the knockout, but Hungary is in their way. Their style is unpredictable though they prevailed in recent meetings. Security will be tight after tensions arose during their last Euro meeting due to Hungary’s anti-LGBTQ+ law.

In the following match, thousands of cheering Scottish fans are to back their team at Cologne and hope for a better result after they were demolished 5-1 by the host of the tournament Germany. The Tartan Army needs a win against the Swiss to keep their Euro hopes alive.

The Swiss continue their way to the Euros and are confident after 3-1 victory in their opening match against Hungary. Nevertheless, Scotland isn’t hopeless and, even though they have lost in their opening game, they still have an opportunity to qualify.

Both sides have made some changes, however, one Scotland player is missing after a red card. Additionally, it looks like Switzerland is going to stick with their first-half performance. Despite their crucial defeat, Scotland appears to be “up for” this game but Switzerland expects to give as much as they get.

On the same day, Albania and Croatia face each other in a crucial match tonight in Hamburg. Despite having a strong squad and boasting veterans like Luka Modric, Croatia is looking to improve after a disappointing start. Albania is playing for only the second time in a major tournament. Certainly, they have left a mark with a closely contested game against Italy.

Before the game, Croatia’s manager Zlatko Dalic asked his charges to be more aggressive. Speed and tactical game are supposed to play a large role in Albania’s plans to upset the established order. Though it is considered an underdog in the fixture, the Albania team also has a solid squad and will not give up without a fight. Incidentally, it is the first time the teams are facing each other. It adds some aura of anticipation and excitement not only for the players but also for their fans.
