Everton Ends Winless Streak with Dramatic 3-2 Victory Over Spurs

Everton finally broke the winless spell in their six games, beating Tottenham Hotspur in a wild 3-2 contest in the Premier League. What a crucial moment for the Toffees to pull something like this out of the hat at the crucial time — because that win couldn’t have maybe come at a more opportune time in their campaign.

It didn’t take long for the teams to start scoring, with Dominic Calvert Lewin making the most of a clever set-up from Idrissa Gueye to fire Everton 1-0 up in the 13th minute. It was Gueye again who turned provider, setting up Iliman Ndiaye to finish clinically to make it 2-0 in the 30th minute.

Things went from bad to worse for Spurs just before halftime when an own goal in the 45th minute made it 3-0 to Everton.

But Tottenham managed to pull themselves back into the game in the second half. Kulusevski netted the 77th, and in stoppage time M. Moore made another play, assisting Richarlison with another red light.

But the Spurs couldn’t convert their late comeback into a point in the pocket, just one place above 16th-placed Everton.

Speaking after the match, Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou remained defiant despite his side’s struggles. “We look at the situation we’re in; it will eventually dissipate in terms of player availability, and then we give ourselves an opportunity to at least get some consistency in games and performances” he said. “Keep fighting. I haven’t lost belief or determination to turn it around. The second half the players showed they’re not throwing the towel in. We’ll get our way through this.”

Everton’s upcoming fixtures include Brighton on January 25, Leicester on February 1, and a home clash with Liverpool on February 12. Meanwhile, Spurs will face Leicester on January 26, Brentford on February 2, and Manchester United at home on February 16.
